Debunking The Republican Lies – An Open Letter To Republicans

The Last Of The Millenniums

Americans want a Government that functions.

Right now, Republicans seem to be doing everything they can to make it stop functioning.

Why?

Why are Republicans hurting America?

benghazi 2

After watching FOX news for 1 hour, just 1 hour today, I’ve discovered that President Obama ( and it was hinted that he might not even be a ‘real’ citizen) and the Democrats are to blame for everything.

In fact, it has gotten so bad that Speaker of the House Republican John Boehner will be suing the President for issuing Executive Orders thus abusing his powers.

Interestingly enough, Speaker Boehner gave no specifics as to what powers the President was abusing……just that he was abusing them.

But Speaker Boehner was specific earlier in the day when he told the press that there would be no vote in the House on immigration reform this year.

And that’s when the President said he would act…

Sen. Elizabeth Warren & Author Thomas Piketty Interview

Tonight in a video posted by MoveOn.org, Senator Elizabeth Warren and author Thomas Piketty were interviewed by HuffingtonPost.com about social and political issues they’ve been speaking about and working on, such as income inequality and campaign contribution laws post-Citizens United/McCutcheon. They had some very interesting things to say, including their ideas for how to reform the many broken systems in America.

Most importantly, Sen. Warren ended the night’s event with a message to all of us that change can and will happen, and that she won’t stop fighting for reform and progress. Normally, I’d be skeptical of any politician talking about reform, but she seems to genuinely care and believe in what she’s saying, and that’s considering that she’s probably made more enemies than friends in Washington for her very progressive views and legislative efforts. It’s also quite gutsy, and risky, of her to align herself with MoveOn.org, a liberal, progressive activist organization. The fact that she’s done so suggests to me she’s serious about reform and equality.

Has America Gone Crazy?

via Has America Gone Crazy? on Creators.com.

It might appear that the U-S-of-A has gone bonkers. So let me clear up any confusion that you might have: Yes, it has!

Yet, it hasn’t. More on that in a moment.

First, though — whether looking at the “tea party” congress critters who’ve swerved our nation’s political debate to the hard right, or at the peacocks of Wall Street who continue to preen and profit atop the wreckage they’ve made of our real economy — it’s plain to see that America is suffering a pestilence of nuts and narcissists in high places. These “leaders” are hell bent to enthrone themselves and their ilk as the potentates of our economic, governmental and social systems, and they are aggressively trying to snuff out the light of egalitarianism that historically has been our society’s unifying force.

Bill Moyers, America’s most public-spirited journalist, summarized the…

How Local Governments Are Hacking Immigration Reform

via How Local Governments Are Hacking Immigration Reform – Spencer Amdur – The Atlantic.

Only the federal government can grant amnesty. But cities and counties can effectively opt to stop deportations—and increasingly, they are.

SPENCER AMDUR MAY 13 2014

States and cities are taking immigration reform into their own hands. With prospects for comprehensive legislation bleak in Washington, local governments have begun making decisions about who gets deported and who doesn’t by refusing to participate in a system that has come to rely on them. After a few years of slow but steady progress, local reform is now taking off.

In the last three weeks, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Denver, and counties in Oregon, Colorado, Washington, and California have announced they will no longer help federal immigration police carry out deportations. These decisions, spurred by recent federal-court rulings, add to the growing chorus of state and local governments that have recently…

All Across America

End Stand Your Ground

It’s happening all across America. Whether by a gun, a knife, or other means, far too many people are killed every year by others who have the option to invoke “stand your ground” immunity to try and avoid prosecution.

These amended self-defense laws can allow someone to manipulate a scenario that allows them to cause great bodily harm or take another’s life.

The Movement to End Stand Your Ground is releasing a new 35-second video, “All Across America” today, with images of unarmed “stand your ground” victims, to help call attention to this. Check it out, then share it with everyone you know:

Obamacare vs. The Affordable Care Act (Yeah, They’re The Same Thing)

Illuminate

Rachel Maddow talked about some bewildering results of a recent survey on people’s feelings about Obamacare on her news show. CNBC has reported about it as well:

29% of the public supports Obamacare compared with 22% who support the Affordable Care Act.

46% oppose Obamacare and 37% oppose Affordable Care Act.

So what’s going on? Well, it’s all in the name, of course!

The strange results are due to two things. The first is that the respondents didn’t know that Obamacare and the Affordable Care Act are the same thing (Obamacare is simply a derisive nickname given to the Affordable Care Act by those who don’t support it, whereas the Affordable Care Act is its official name). The second is that the respondents were swayed by the name used in the survey. When the term “Obamacare” was used, the results were different than when the term “Affordable Care…
