This documentary film, “The Overview Effect“, offers the viewer a profoundly spiritual experience where he/she will perhaps acquire a totally new way of thinking about this planet called Earth.

As there is probably no chance that men and women will have the opportunity to actually travel into space as the astronauts in the film, this production offers spectacular video imagery which is the closest any of us will ever come.

Viewers of this superb short film cannot but be moved in very significant ways from the images of Earth from space as well as the words used by both astronauts and philosophers during the film. The documentary is one of those rare ones that, after viewing it, people have no choice but to recommend and share with others.

I think you will agree that “The Overview Effect” is one of the most powerful and profound films ever produced.

“We the people of the United Nations determined to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind, and,

To reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women and of nations large and small,

To establish conditions under which justice and respect of the obligations arising from treaties and other sources of international law can be maintained, and,

To promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom,

and for these ends,

To practice tolerance and live together in peace with one another as good neighbors, and,

To unite our strength to maintain international peace and security, and to insure by the acceptance of principles and the institution of methods, that armed force shall not be used, save in the common interest, and,

To employ international machinery for the promotion of economic and social advancement of all peoples,

Have resolved to combine our efforts to accomplish these ends.”

Preamble / United Nations Charter / 1945

It is safe to say that it would be hard to find persons on Earth who had disagreement with the concepts conveyed in the original United Nations (UN) Charter. Perhaps because I have been born and lived in the United States of America, I have never heard any American political leader suggest the United Nations become a world legislative, judicial, military, governmental entity.

Yes, I am one of “those one-worlders”, with an unrealistic idea that the people and nations of the Earth can agree, as one, to sign on to a planetary agreement and abide by the rules and laws of such an agreement. There were words spoken by Robert Kennedy, brother of President John Kennedy (JFK), where he quotes a philosopher of old, “Some men see things as they are, and ask why. I see things as they can be, and ask why not?”

In that spirit of possibility, of worldwide agreement on establishing a planetary governing body at the United Nations, I will repeat the olden days’ philosopher’s question: why not? On Earth there are village, city, county, state/province, and national governments. So, why not an international government? My sense is that there is nothing to stand in the way of such an entity. Included in that sense is a belief that the people of the Earth would be in favor of such a concept.

From the broadest perspective I can manage, of which I am capable of envisioning, such a world governing body is the next logical step ahead for humanity. If one looks at the world developments surrounding communication of people from every nation, with people from every nation, over the world-wide-web called the internet, one could say that the millions of people communicating are an unnamed, silent, defacto world government. There is no sense of “us and them” on the internet – men and women are simply talking to fellow “inhabitants of the planet”, borrowing words from JFK’s last UN address fifty years ago in 1963.

I am trying to convey a truly possible way forward for humanity that is feasible, practical, pragmatic, and entirely within reach. Everyone has seen film or photos taken from space showing the Earth in space. A very fine documentary “The Overview Effect” is posted on the homepage of this site. Those who have viewed the film know the “feeling” one gets while viewing the Earth from space. There is a connection between the feeling of viewing Earth from space and a world governing body – the United Nations.

That real feeling of connection has a word to describe it: Oneness.

If asked the question, “what is the highest state that humanity could ever achieve?”, most people would answer with concepts and ideas that entail oneness. That highest state achievable by the human race is possible, and it lies in the establishment of a world government. Let me trash one possible reaction readers of these words may come to, now. You can erase any thought whatsoever that I am a person interested in a so-called “New World Order” or NWO. There is a profound difference between the concept I wish to advocate and the agenda of those who wish to control, increase power and wealth, and are willing to kill millions to get there.

There is a “New World Order” group (a minority of humanity) and there is a “New World” group (the majority of humanity). Depending on how far across the world this message spreads and becomes disseminated, there will be some who react strongly against such a vision. This is understandable. One senses that once those people who argue against the establishment of a world governing body come to understand and see the tremendous benefits – the decrease in hate, war, and killing, the world’s people co-operating in true brotherhood and unity, the first time humanity has come together as one – that they will then fully understand and join in oneness with the people of the world.

Let me say that I believe any man or woman who reads these words feels the same way as I do. Surely this assertion is going out on a limb – way out there. That’s fine. I will tell you that I am trying to be as honest as humanly possible, because I believe that humanity has the power to make this planetary reality happen. Let me be so bold as to say that humanity will make this happen. It is going to happen because it is humanity’s will for a movement forward and upward.

When all nations on Earth agree to join the first international governing entity in history, problems which have plagued mankind for thousands of years will begin being solved. Those who have read my past writings know that I like to keep things simple – complexity is required for scientific, academic, and technical endeavors. When discussing a new world governing system however, the simple logic which leads to the simple conclusion that it is an improvement for all people is enough.

One possible outcome of such a planetary agreement, a profound decrease in man’s spending on weapons of war, will convince any person of the positive consequences possible. Part of the agreement for nations will be the ceding of military operations to the United Nations. There will no longer be any national defense establishments – there will be one international military force under the control of the United Nations. This force will be stationed all over the planet using the facilities currently used by the United States, Russia, China, etc. This force will act as the world’s police/law enforcement agency, and will consist of men and women from every nation.

Each nation will turn over control of all weapons to the UN military/law enforcement agency. These weapons will be distributed to UN bases covering every region on Earth, as determined by continually diminishing “hot-spots”, until an equilibrium is reached. The agreement between the USA and Russia regarding chemical weapons in Syria serves as an excellent example of the co-operation and coordination possible when a world government body is agreed upon.

When you listen to JFK you will understand the “feeling” of possibility I have tried to convey here. Now I see the facial expressions of readers who are asking themselves how this guy can compare himself to JFK. I hope to be a person of humility and have no wish for fame, fortune, or any of those things. I am simply sharing honest thoughts with other men and women that may not, or may, start a fire, if you will, that spreads across the Earth.

Perhaps that fire is of the human heart, related to the sadness we feel when our fellow men and women suffer pain and harm. As all people everywhere on Earth I simply and humbly ask for the pain and harm to end. Humanity is so much better and can truly create a much more positive planetary state of affairs than this.

All people want a new and better world for their families, friends, and future generations. It is possible when that universal will is translated into actions for the creation of such a world.

If John F. Kennedy had lived he would have become the United Nations Secretary General after leaving office as president. At the end of my rambling I have included JFK’s last address to the United Nations General Assembly from 1963. I hope it will inspire you and instill a feeling that what humanity desires is possible.

Humanity will choose to live in love, peace, and oneness.

Humanity Evolving Rapidly Toward “Oneism”

Men and women around the world have heard of the term “oneness”, a noun which is defined as “the quality or state of one; singleness; unity.” and “unity of mind, feeling, or purpose.” and “sameness; identity.” So, did I just add a word to the human language: “Oneism”? In hopes of conveying a feeling that is more “acceptable” than the spiritually viewed word “oneness” I do hope that “Oneism” enters into the languages used around the Earth.

So, what can I say about this new word? Given separation of church and state is a concept which is well-known to most people, Oneism describes a form of political theory where traditional, historical forms of governing evolve to a higher place-a totally inclusive place. It describes a form of government theory which has as its basis that humanity and all life-forms on Earth are in fact one. The following words written by Ralph Waldo Emerson may convey such a political system:

“The power of love, as the basis of a state, has never been tried… There will always be a government of force where men are selfish…”

Through the centuries mankind has progressed with the discovery of fire, the printing press, the internal combustion engine, the airplane, computers, and now worldwide instantaneous communication. The next step in human evolution is creating governments and states with love as their basis. Yes, this is a radical idea, a call for drastic reform(s).

Some may shrug such an idea off as “utopian” and “looking at the world through rose-colored glasses”. So be it. As men and women around the world look through their eyes and see what is occurring-the many opinions and debates, the millions living in conditions which are resolvable through a resetting of priorities in the hearts of humanity collectively-a rise to a higher love consciousness, if you will, there is an awareness of possible, positive change on this planet circling the sun.

In order for such a change in consciousness to occur in this generation people around the Earth will need to become aware that human beings are, in reality, connected. This is occurring as more and more men and women from regions and nations in every land communicate ideas in a good way. I am one humble person sharing this life with this generation, articulating what I believe most people are feeling.

This communication will reach some or many. It will make a certain amount of difference, perhaps a handful of men and women will see some merit to the message contained in this collection of words and receive an injection of some hope for the future. Ideally, the near future. As these words are typed on the keyboard the writer has the intent of conveying messages which are from the heart, not the intellect.

Those who write on blogs have the opportunity to share ideas which may, or may not, travel a long, long, distance. In the plainest language thoughts have created everything in this world. Love as the basis of states, is a thought which is possible-logic and reason tells one that creating such a human reality is doable. Not in some distant future tens or hundreds of years from today, but here and now.

Love as the basis of states-Oneism-is humanity’s inevitable destiny.

I will brush up against egoism by suggesting that perhaps Emerson and those men and women who now hold similar philosophical/spiritual views are “ahead of their time”-advocating a vision that is impossible in the year 2013-but for the love of God and humanity it is a possible vision. Love as the basis of states is the ultimate prerequisite for creating a world that is peaceful and fair and just.

Oneism, a philosophy whose time has come, illustrates the concept of human potential always moving forward and creating the new-evolving to higher and higher, nobler and nobler versions of living on the Earth. In essence this is an intellectual and spiritual landscape which resides in the sacred. What I am trying to convey is the literal meeting place of science and spirit, manifested on this Earth, for all time.

The concept shared by Ralph Waldo Emerson has a direct connection to the concept known by Native Americans: seven generations. The idea of seven generations can be described as a spiritual way of living that always acts according to the concern for those yet to be born a hundred years into the future. A man or woman who has the seven generations philosophy will stop and think before taking any action on how that action will affect those born over 100 years from now.

So, if love is the basis of states on Earth, and all actions become considered for the effect on future generations, war will be no more. In as simple a way of saying it as possible, humanity will experience sanity. In all areas of human interaction and creation the basis of action(s) shall be understood and acknowledged with the oneness of humanity at the head of the line of importance.

Let me share that I believe this Earthly situation and reality is happening now. I speak about these things because I sense through intuition that people around the world feel the same way, and it is time to record the words which convey that real feeling. It seems that speaking to this feeling and writing it down may help to accelerate the implementing of such ideas into the world and on the ground.

One senses that to bring about good changes on Earth (God knows changes are needed) a philosophical/spiritual set of principles has to empower any such efforts. The ideas which entail such a set of principles are not new-they have been around a very long time-and are, as Gandhi said, “as old as the hills”.

All people, all life, and all things are sacred and connected.

Having said the previous words, I will share an interview between David Swanson and Jason Liosatos on a program produced in Britain “Outside The Box”. Mr. Swanson is a writer and activist who wrote a book “War No More: The Case For Abolition”. I found this video, listened to the interview after recalling reading a few of David Swanson’s articles on alternative news websites, and thought it mirrored to some extent the Oneism philosophy that is growing at a rapid pace these days.

One can call this philosophical/spiritual evolution Oneism, oneness, unity consciousness, or any other term which accurately describes the feeling(s) which humanity has now. Whatever the term, the feeling is undeniable, real, and holds the absolute, world-changing power of love.

And The World Will Live As One.

“Not one statesman in a position of responsibility has dared to pursue the only course that holds out any promise of peace, the courage of supra-national security, since for a statesman to follow such a course would be tantamount to political suicide.”

Albert Einstein (1879-1955) Last written words, April 1955

Why did John Lennon and Yoko Ono create the song “Imagine”? Where did they find the ideas, what books did they read, who from the annals of history did they admire, when did they come to awareness of the potential for humanity experiencing higher consciousness?

Why do we as people create what we create? Where do we find our ideas, what books do we read, who from the annals of history do we admire, when will we come to awareness of the potential for humanity experiencing higher consciousness?

After discovering ideas, books, admirable men and women, and awareness of humanity’s ability to live on this Earth with a higher consciousness, what drove these souls, John Lennon and Yoko Ono?

Upon experiencing in the same way as every person does, discovery of ideas through writings from admirable men and women, ideas we approve and which give us some sense of pleasure, give us the sense of possibility of a way forward for the human race that is higher and nobler, what drives us?

What is this thing called higher consciousness that men and women have written about, that people discover, approve and derive some pleasure from? Is it possible that the entire world can live from this thing called higher consciousness?

When would be the ideal time to strive for this thing called higher consciousness? Today? Tomorrow? Next year when we have more time? Maybe when we retire and really have time for it. We see that maybe now would be a good time to advocate for a higher consciousness, with all the lower consciousness events occurring on Earth.

But we are not sure, this has been written about, and talked about, for thousands of years and nothing seems to change. Warring and killing have always been occurring. Maybe it is human nature and I have to face the facts on this. Maybe there is nothing I can do to change things.

Let me think about this now. If I delay my effort to achieve higher consciousness what will happen? What if I decided to make whatever effort is necessary to achieve higher consciousness now?

Higher consciousness could be seen as every thought we have which involves appreciation of the qualities of love, peace, brotherhood and oneness. These are the qualities we as human beings can first imagine, apply in our lives, and are the best options to choose for any chance of happiness on this Earth.

Humanity must strive with all its might for higher consciousness now.

The first step is shedding tears for all the men, women and children on this Earth who are suffering.

The next action is imagining a new way, and then choosing love, peace, brotherhood and oneness.
